This week is National Nutrition Week (15-21 October).
Optimum nutrition is the foundation of optimum health.
There is a well-established link between increased intake of fruit and vegetables and improved health outcomes.
Australians are not eating enough fruit and vegetables.
Adults (aged 18 years and over):
- 6.1% of adults ate the recommended amount of both fruit and vegetables.
- 44.8% met the fruit recommendation (2 or more serves).
- 8.7% met the vegetable recommendation (5 serves daily).
Children (aged 2-17 years):
- 8.5% of children ate the recommended amount of both fruit and vegetables.
- 9.0% met the vegetable recommendation
- 5.3% of children did not eat fruit at all.
- 4.1% of children did not eat vegetables at all.
